AN INTRODUCTION TO BARRADISE
Located 90 miles from Oban, Barra is only 11 miles long and 6 miles wide, however it boasts miles of beautiful beaches, machair and history.
The island is accessed by ferries from Oban or Eriskay or by plane arriving on the beach of Traigh Mhor.
Vatersay is the most southerly inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides and has many sites of modern and ancient history which show the harsh environment of living life in the Outer Hebrides.
Hebridean Way is a journey stretching of over 150 miles and can be walked, cycled or driven. Starting in Vatersay it allows you to experience 10 islands, 6 causeways and 2 ferries. If you take your time and soak up the atmosphere it is a great way to get a flavour of the Outer Hebrides.
Becoming a 'temporary local' in the island will allow you to truly experience the spirit of the islands. It may be tempting to fly through the islands to bag them all, however staying for a week on the island give you a flavour of island life and lets you see all that these islands have to offer.
